Wednesday was a tough loss to swallow for the Mets after having a lead, blowing a would-be Jacob deGrom win and then failing to get the tying run home despite having the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the ninth. To react to the third loss of the season, we bring you a brand new episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with me and former Met Nelson Figueroa.

Figgie and I open the show reacting to the loss, beginning with some poor managing from Luis Rojas. How do you leave Justin Wilson in the game in the 8th inning after pitching for a fourth time in six days and clearly not having it? Dellin Betances should have been put in the game when the score became 4-3, before Wilson would give up two more runs. We also analyze the bottom of the ninth, the Mets stranding runners and the key Yoenis Cespedes’ strikeout in a poor at bat. Figgie and I also talk about Andres Gimenez’s big debut and how he would make things interesting if Robinson Cano were to struggle. Figgie breaks down David Peterson’s debut Tuesday and why he compares a bit to Jon Niese. We also look back at Jose Reyes’ career after he announced his retirement as Figgie talks about what it was like playing with him.

Longtime Mets public relations director up through 2018 Jay Horwitz then joins the show. Horwitz is now the Vice President of alumni public directions and team historian. He talks about why he is enjoying his new role, if he misses his old job, the relationships he formed over the years with players and he tells some funny stories of guys pranking him. Horwitz talks about his book “Mr. Met,” why he wrote it and shares a few anecdotes from the book, including finally opening up about his glass eye. He also brings up the famous dildo-in-the-locker-of-T.J. Rivera moment.
