The official website and Twitter account for the TV anime adaptation of Gaku Kuze’s Life Lessons with Uramichi-Oniisan (Uramichi Oniisan) manga revealed a new promotional video and July 5 premiere date for the anime. The promotional video previews the opening theme song “ABC Taisō” (“ABC Exercise”) by Mamoru Miyano and Nana Mizuki as their characters. The anime was originally set to premiere last year but was delayed due to “production issues”.

The anime’s staff includes Nobuyoshi Nagayama (Smile Down the Runway, Happy Sugar Life) as director, Touko Machida (Lucky Star, Smile Down the Runway) as script supervisor, Mizuki Takahashi (The Ones Within) and Yusuke Shibata (Aikatsu!) as character designers, Kisuke Koizumi (Dororo, Juni Taisen) as sound director, and Kei Haneoka (Kono Oto Tomare!: Sounds of Life, Negima!) as music composer. Kuze is credited with supervising the anime. The animation production will be from Studio Blanc. Miyano performs the ending theme song “Dream On.”

The anime’s cast includes Hiroshi Kamiya as Uramichi Omota, Tomokazu Sugita as Tobikichi Usahara, Yūichi Nakamura as Mitsuo Kumagai, Mamoru Miyano as Iketeru Daga, Nana Mizuki as Utano Tadano, Ryohei Kimura as Hanbee Kikaku, Kenichi Suzumura as Saito Uebu, Daisuke Ono as Matahiko Nekota, Shinichiro Miki as Yusao Furode, Kenyuu Horiuchi as Tekito Derekida, Natsuki Hanae as Eddy Edei, Minami Takahashi as Kayo Ennoshita, Rina Satou as Ikuko Heame, Kazuya Nakai as Furitsuke Capellini, Kenjiro Tsuda as Amon, Yōko Hikasa as Mabui Daga, Sayuri Sadaoka as Sayuri, and Houchu Ohtsuka as The Voice of God.

The Life Lessons with Uramichi-Oniisan manga launched in Ichijinsha and pixiv’s digital manga magazine Comic POOL in 2017. Kodansha publishes the manga in English and describes the story as:

Uramichi is a 31-year old children’s TV host who leads physical exercises and teaches life lessons colored by one main theme: adulthood sucks. Alongside mascots played by a couple of bushy-tailed millennials, and a singing duo whose music embodies the notion of being kicked while you’re down, Uramichi wades through the misery of working life, one sardonic comment at a time…
