#Liberty University board unanimously accepts Falwell’s resignation

Liberty University’s board of trustees unanimously voted Tuesday to accept the resignation of president Jerry Falwell Jr. — amid salacious sex allegations involving him, his wife and a pool boy.

Falwell, 58, will receive his full severance package in accordance with his contract, the board said in a statement, according to an ABC-TV affiliate. Terms of the deal weren’t known.

Falwell took over the helm of the famously conservative Christian school after its former president — his father, televangelist and modern religious-right co-founder Jerry Falwell Sr. — died in 2007.

Falwell Jr. said in an open letter Sunday that his wife, Becki, had a brief affair with former Miami pool boy Giancarlo Granda around 2012 and that he wasn’t involved. He said the couple became the victims of repeated extortion attempts by Granda, so he decided to finally disclose the behind-the-scenes drama.

But Granda retorted that not only did Falwell approve of the affair, he liked to watch the pool boy and Becki have sex. Granda claimed the affair went on for years and denied trying to extort anyone.

Falwell had reportedly agreed to step down from his post at the helm of the Lynchburg, Va., college Monday, then withdrew his letter of resignation, only to finally submit it by the end of the night.

He had already been on leave from the job when the sex scandal broke — after an icky photo surfaced of him with his arm around a young pregnant woman while his pants were open. He has said the photo was a joke.
