«Great Teacher Onizuka» has been around for a few years. The anime series based on the manga of the same name started in Japan in 1999. The 43 episodes of the Comedy Slice of Life anime were created in Animationsstudio Pierrotwhere, among other things, the «Naruto» series were animated.
Storyline of «Great Teacher Onizuka»
Meet Eikichi Onizuka, a 22-year-old ex-biker and karate champion. He is immature, rude and extremely moody. His goal: to become the best high school teacher in the world! Unfortunately, the only available apprenticeship is at the private school in Heiligenforst (no certification required). There he uses his street knowledge to deal with his colleagues and students.
My opinion on anime
I accidentally ended up at «Great Teacher Onizuka» while scrolling through Crunchyroll’s anime catalog. I was lucky enough to take a look at the first episode and was well entertained. Surprisingly, this was even the case episode after episode, so that before I knew it I was on the last episode. Onizuka is a bit weird with his perverse nature and yet somehow likeable, which made me laugh a lot. But the anime doesn’t only consist of light fare, it also deals with serious topics such as bullying, sexual harassment and suicide. These are dealt with in a simple but responsible manner. It’s fun and nice to see how the immature Onizuka manages to teach his students life lessons.
The anime series is perfect for people who just want to unwind and train their funny muscles after a hard day. It’s also great for in between, for example when there’s an anime lull and you have nothing else to watch.
