#Letters to the Editor — May 14, 2021

The Issue: The Post’s endorsement of Brooklyn beep Eric Adams for mayor in the Democratic primary.

Thank you for your endorsement of Eric Adams (“The Post endorses Eric Adams for mayor,” May 10).

Up until a few weeks ago, I didn’t know who I was voting for. Then I happened to read about Adams — and realized that he has an all-around impressive resume that eminently qualifies him to be our next mayor.

As you mention in your editorial, his background as a policeman for 22 years will especially help in dealing with the city’s present crime spree.

But also, his eight years as Brooklyn borough president (the largest of the five boroughs) has prepared him for the even bigger task of guiding our fair city.

Adams would make a great mayor. He’s just what the city needs.

Mayor de Blasio has ruined New York City. Crime and homelessness are out of control, people are moving out in droves, people don’t want work in the city anymore.

New York City survived on tourism. If tourists stop visiting, it’ll never survive.

Adams might be the only mayor who could clean up the city, and with his police background, he is sensible and reasonable.

I hope he gets voted in and will always have the backs of the men and women in the New York Police Department.

I agree with The Post; I support Adams as well.

I like that he said he wouldn’t want a security detail when his constituents don’t have one.

He also supports charter schools, and I think he understands the crisis the city is facing and will be a 180 from the current administration.

I look forward to a safer and better New York City under Adams.

I’m disappointed in The Post’s endorsement of Adams, since we still don’t know who the Republican nominee will be.

Democrats have ruined the city, so it would have made sense for your editors to at least wait to see who the Republicans nominate.

Any Republican will do a much better job than a Democrat would do, including Adams.

Adams has won some endorsements for New York City’s next mayor and seems to be just what the city needs.

He wants a stronger and better police presence and has experience as a former NYPD captain.

The best thing he could do is to decline all campaign donations from the teachers union, or else New York City will end up in the same predicament it is now.

The United Federation of Teachers has enough money and enough power now, and the city is hamstrung by the union’s stranglehold on the school system.

He can learn a lesson from the current mayor about how not to govern a city.

Miranda Devine (and I hate to say it because I usually agree with her) made the same mistake as The Post. She’s endorsing Adams for mayor (“A Blas’t from city’s dark past,” May 10).

But the Republicans haven’t selected their candidate. In the recent past, New York has been led by two excellent mayors, both of whom were Republicans.

Mayor Rudy Giuliani pulled this city out of the hole Mayor David Dinkins put us in, and there is no reason a Republican can’t do it again.

I am shocked that The Post endorsed Adams.

I do not personally know him and have nothing personally against him — but, as reported by The Post, his campaign gave $30,000 to a supposed scam artist (“Adams’ gift for ‘grifter,’ ” May 2).

Does he even have the mentality to govern New York City, when he can’t even handle his own campaign without getting scammed?

Does this mean New York City could be scammed in the future if Adams is voted in as mayor? Based on past history, it is very probable.
