Not bailing on Don

I am glad I am not in a foxhole with Salena Zito. I have spoken to many Republican friends and none have abandoned President Trump (“Over & Don With,” PostScript, Jan. 10).

He didn’t incite the riot and he didn’t call for looting, burning and vandalism.

Unlike most Republicans, he stands up for what he believes in and does not give in to the constant pressure from the media and the do-nothing Democrats that tried to ruin his presidency from the moment it started.

Ignore vax haters

I am sure The Post will receive some angry letters from people who believe your reporter, Hannah Frishberg, should not have been able to obtain the COVID vaccine (“A lucky ‘shot’ for this Post reporter,” Jan. 12). I could not disagree more. I believe it was a good thing.

Trashing vaccine doses rather than giving them to people out of “order” is the dumbest idea government could come up with. If Frishberg gains immunity, she will not be able to contract COVID, and therefore she cannot spread it. The more people vaccinated, the sooner herd immunity will be achieved. All lives matter and every shot should be used. I write as a 71-year-old former 9/11 responder who is on oxygen 24/7 due to COPD.

Although I live independently, I have a COVID bullseye on my back, But there are many people who need the vaccine more than I. We don’t need another nursing home travesty. I willingly wait my turn and just be grateful there is a vaccine.

Cuomo’s big spend

Note to Gov. Cuomo: Spending money that you do not have is not going to make you more money (“Boondoggle Bonanza,” E.J. McMahon, PostOpinion, Jan. 15).

Failure to acknowledge this little issue is why your budget gap is $15 billion.

Cuomo’s utterly insane and disproportionate mandates are driving corporations and people out of New York, not welcoming them with open arms and opportunity. The crime rate in New York City has gone up, also not a great selling point. Plus, Broadway is dark, entertainment is nonexistent and dining is a crapshoot. And don’t get me started on the debacle that is the education system.

Let’s improve on what will make the present more sustainable and viable, which is opening up New York in its entirety and stop the insanity.

Future of the GOP

In Josh Hammer’s column (“Post-trump populism,” PostOpinion, Jan. 9) he makes a plea for Trump-style populism without the narcissistic excesses of its leader.

The GOP rank and file have no further use for gentlemanly losers in the McCain and Romney mold and demand a fighting leader, the type not likely to be produced by a think tank or symposium.

Your “new style” conservatism harkens back to the old, high-minded Roman Senate patricians, who were blind to the environment they inhabited.

Garland’s test

The Post believes Merrick Garland is a great pick to restore confidence in the Department of Justice (“Garland, Restore Justice,” Editorial, Jan. 8).

However, his background as a gifted, scrupulous judge who has prosecuted high-profile cases has nothing to do with keeping partisan politics out of DOJ decision-making.

Restore confidence? We’ll know soon enough. The proof will be whether the nation finally gets to see what is on Hunter Biden’s laptop or if Garland is just another Eric Holder.
