#Houston cancels voluntary workouts after six coronavirus cases

Sports are slowly attempting to come back, but the novel coronavirus pandemic isn’t going away.

The most recent example is the University of Houston.

The Cougars suspended voluntary workouts for all student-athletes on Friday “out of an abundance for caution” when it discovered six symptomatic cases and an increase in positive tests in the Houston area over the last week. The students who tested positive were put in isolation and tracing procedures were initiated.

Starting on June 1, the NCAA allowed for voluntary workouts, and there have several positive cases arising at campuses across the country. Houston, though, is the first school to suspend workouts, just the latest example of how difficult it will be to have a college football season that starts on time.
