“#La’Mical Perine is first Jets player to test positive for COVID-19”
Jets rookie running back La’Mical Perine tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, becoming the first Jets player to test positive in the regular season.
Jets coach Adam Gase said the team had begun contact tracing to see if other players or coaches have had close contact with Perine.
“There hasn’t been a lot of people around the last two days, player-wise, because of the rules,” Gase said. “But we have a lot to go through right now.”
Under the NFL’s current protocols, the team’s training center is virtually empty on Monday and Tuesday. Only players rehabbing injuries have been there.
Perine will be placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list and won’t play Sunday against the Patriots.
The Jets were already down a running back after Frank Gore suffered a bruised lung in Sunday’s win over the Browns. The only running backs currently on the active roster are Ty Johnson and Josh Adams. The team could elevate Pete Guerriero from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Patriots.
