#LA mayor slammed for prioritizing movie shoot over COVID testing

After a night of outrage, the mayor of Los Angeles has recalled the city’s plans to halt coronavirus testing so that the “She’s All That” remake could film at Union Station.

Mayor Eric Garcetti announced the reversal on Twitter in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.

“My team has worked to reopen testing at Union Station on Tuesday,” he wrote. “The 504 Angelenos who were scheduled for a test there can visit the kiosk as originally planned.”

On Monday, many LA residents shared their anger online after they received an email announcing that their free scheduled COVID-19 test at the station had been canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice. “We apologize for the inconvenience and delayed notification but LA Union Station Kiosk site has had to cancel all appointments for December 1 due to an event being held at the location,” the email read, according to screenshots.

Deadline identified the “event” as filming for the upcoming gender-swapped remake of 1999’s “She’s All That,” aptly named “He’s All That.” The flick, which was announced in September, features TikTok star Addison Rae, Madison Pettis, Tanner Buchanan and Petyon Meyer.

About 170 crew members are expected to be present at Union Station, in addition to the 500-plus people receiving testing. FilmLA, an organization that helps flicks receive permits to shoot within the city, granted the movie’s production company Miramax allowance for the shoot.

Ironically, Los Angeles county imposed a three-week stay-at-home order on Monday, banning gatherings with anyone outside of residents’ homes. However, the new rules, which also included capacity decreases for businesses, are entirely voluntary and will not be enforced.

In November, California Governor Gavin Newsom was caught breaking his own COVID-19 rules. Pictures showed the politician dining indoors at a 12-person birthday party, where none of the attendees wore masks.
