#Kyoto Animation to Merge With Animation Do on November 1
“#Kyoto Animation to Merge With Animation Do on November 1”
After it being announced through the Government Gazette last month, Kyoto Animation confirmed today on the anime studio's website that they will be merging the operations and rights of Animation Do into Kyoto Animation on November 1. Kyoto Animation will take over all the day to day for its old subsidiary, including the staff members, which were already regularly shared between the two companies.
Animation Do was a subsidiary of Kyoto Animation with KyoAni president Hideaki Hatta in charge of both companies. Animation Do was established as Kyoto Animation Osaka Studio until it was incorporated as a limited company in 2001, then becoming a full corporation in 2010. Do mainly worked as an affiliate to Kyoto Animation, supporting their projects until the Free! anime franchise came along, where Animation Do produced the franchise mostly in-house with support from their sister studio.
The next entry in the Free! franchise will be released at some point in 2021, after being delayed from mid-2020 due to the Kyoto Animation arson attack. Presumably, Kyoto Animation will lead the project after the merge goes through.
