“One Piece Film: Red Surpasses 5 Billion Yen Mark in 8 Days”

The official Twitter for One Piece Film: Red, the 15th feature film in the One Piece anime franchise, confirmed today that the film’s cumulative box office gross in Japan has already surpassed five billion yen (37.47 million USD) on 3.6 million admissions in eight days since its release of August 6. The 115-minute film’s distributor Toei also announced the news at the stage greeting event held at the Marunouchi TOEI theater in Tokyo today.

One Piece Film: Red has become the fourth top-grossing film in the One Piece anime franchise, behind ONE PIECE FILM Z (2012 / 6.87 billion yen), ONE PIECE STAMPEDE (2019 / 5.55 billion yen), and ONE PIECE FILM GOLD (2016 / 5.18 billion yen). ONE PIECE FILM Z spent three weeks to reach the five billion yen mark (and this year’s current No.1 anime film, Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween needed 17 days). So, if this strong momentum continues, there is no doubt that One Piece Film: Red will become the new No. 1 film in the franchise.

One Piece Film: Red was released in 376 theaters across Japan on August 6, 2022, then earned a huge 2.254 billion yen (16.92 million USD) on 1.58 million admissions to make its No.1 debut. It is likely to retain its No.1 position for a second week, especially since no new strong competitors have appeared.

The first 500,000 theatergoers in the second week receive “ONEPIECE Card Game Tutorial Deck.”
