The Vince Staples Show stars the rapper as himself and “explores his unpredictable life over the course of five satirical tales” set in his hometown of Long Beach, according to a synopsis.
Co-produced by Kenya Barris (Black-ish, Entergalactic), the series also stars Vanessa Bell Calloway, Andrea Ellsworth, Naté Jones, Arturo Castro, Scott MacArthur, Bryan Greenberg and Myles Bullockas.
Its trailer, which was released last month, also promises a cameo from Rick Ross.
“A lot of it comes from a real place. It’s just life,” Vince said of the show. “Usually people pick, ‘This is a comedy or this is a drama’ [or] ‘this is serious, you can’t make it a joke.’
“We lived in between those moments, because that’s what life is. Sometimes things aren’t supposed to be funny but end up being hilarious. I just wanted to make sure I was showing the light sides of darkness and the dark sides of lightness.”
Ahead of The Vince Staples Show‘s premiere on Thursday, Vince held a free screening in Los Angeles for those unable to afford a Netflix subscription.
“The streets saying they don’t have @Netflix accounts but don’t you fret,” he wrote in a post on X. “We doing a FREE screening for the trenches of Los Angeles !!! Follow the link to link and build. AND WE GOT POPCORN.”
