As Kid Cudi fans eagerly await the imminent arrival of his debut mixtape, A Kid Named Cudi, on streaming services, the Ohio-bred lyricist decided to refresh the project’s cover art on Monday (July 11), which sparked some backlash from a day one fan.

The mixtape’s original cover featured Mr. Solo Dolo’s face placed behind some black writing, but Cudder has since updated it to be a black-and-white photo of himself sitting on some steps donning a plaid shirt and backwards hat.

“This photo was taken by Mel D Cole on 9.22.08 in NYC,” Cudi wrote in an Instagram caption announcing the new art. “Right before my life changed forever.”

A fan took issue with the swap, writing on Twitter, “I’m sorry cud but the og cover too iconic.”

“I’m sorry but that cover i never liked and this is way better to see me at that time,” Cudi fired back at the fan. “Some of yall be so stuck on the past and dont wanna see any change its really sad. This photo is as equally if not more iconic. Ur bogus.”

The fan eventually replied, “yo i never knew you didnt like the original cover. apparently the internet says im still supposed to be sad, so how about some passes to moonman’s landing and we talk it out?”

Cudi announced A Kid Named Cudi’s DSP arrival back in March. The tape will drop on Friday (July 15), and was the project that birthed Cudi’s five-times platinum single “Day ‘N’ Nite.” The remastered version will also feature a few fan-favorites like “The Prayer,” “Man on the Moon” and “Heaven At Nite,” and will even include a brand new intro.
