Kate Upton is the latest celeb to join the “Teenage Dirtbag” trend, a social media phenomenon in which people are posting a reel of photos and videos of themselves as teens, set to the song by Wheatus that was released in 2000.
“Teenage dirtbag Kate was T H R I V I N G,” Upton, now 30, wrote on Instagram.
Thriving, she was. At just 19 years old, Upton graced the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit in 2012. She would repeat as the cover model the following year.
Her “Teenage Dirtbag” video featured a photo from Sports Illustrated, a clip of her dancing at a basketball game, and a snippet from her famous Carl’s Jr. commercial where she was eating a hamburger.
Nevertheless, in 2017, Upton revealed that the negativity on social media from her covers made her question her body image.
“After my first cover, we were discussing whether I was fat or not,” Upton said on a Facebook live video. “And for me as a 19-year-old, I was like ‘What? Am I fat? What is going on?’ I had this huge moment in my career and they were tearing it apart.”
In June, Upton — who is married to star Astros pitcher Justin Verlander — celebrated her 30th birthday with a girls’ trip to St. Barth’s. Amy Cole, the wife of Yankees ace Gerrit Cole, who was a teammate of Verlander’s in Houston, was among those at the shindig.
“It was perfect,” Upton captioned an Instagram video at the time. “Loved every minute!”
