#Kamala Harris chooses ‘Pioneer’ as her Secret Service code name

Presumptive vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris has chosen “Pioneer” as her Secret Service code name, according to a report.

Harris chose the moniker, reported by CNN, shortly after being placed under Secret Service protection last week, when she was tapped as presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s running mate.

The California senator’s code name choice appears to be a nod to the historic nature of her nomination, being the first female of color vice presidential nominee.

Secret Service code names are known for often signifying something about that individual’s character. Former President Obama’s Secret Service code name is “Renegade,” former Vice President Biden’s is “Celtic,” President Trump’s is “Mogul” and Vice President Pence’s is “Hoosier.”

While the code names are sometimes changed over time for security reasons, they are often publicly known.

Biden’s code name “Celtic” is the same one he had during his years in the Obama administration. Jill Biden’s code name is still “Capri,” as well, which is the same one she had as second lady.

The code names are not created by the Secret Service themselves, according to ABC News, citing a law enforcement source. Instead, they are created by the White House Communications Agency in partnership with the candidates.

A Biden campaign spokesperson did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment on the code name.
