Brian Haner launched a GoFundMe fundraiser for his brother, Adam, who was beaten unconscious by the mob Sunday night.
“Adam was trying to help someone and was then attacked,” Brian wrote on the page that’s received more than $100,000 in donations as of Wednesday morning.
“Hoping this money will help Adam get things together for his life after the attack he suffered.”
The caught-on-camera attack shows protesters yanking Adam out of his crashed Ford 4×4 truck, then assaulting him on the ground. Witnesses said Adam was trying to help a transgender woman being assaulted by the mob.
Brian said his brother has “always been cynical about the world at large,” saying the alleged assault will “be an awakening experience” for him.
“Maybe he will use some of this money to move out of Portland, or just use it to move up,” Brian wrote. “I really don’t care what he uses it for. He would give the shirt off his back to help any of the people around him, and he really didn’t deserve what happened to him in Portland.”
Police have identified the man who allegedly kicked Adam in the head and knocked him unconscious as Marquise Love, 25. They have urged him to turn himself in.
Adam was treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and released, police said.
On Tuesday, Brian wrote that Adam was “still very dazed” and was interviewing with a detective.
“He doesn’t remember everything that has happened,” Brian wrote, sharing photos of Adam with bruises on his body and two black eyes. “He thought his truck only had a dent in it.”
