#Kamala Harris and Joe Biden beefs: Two times the running mates clashed

Nobody knows better than Joe Biden that his veep pick Kamala Harris can be a pit bull — she regularly went after him while still vying for the top spot on the Democratic presidential ticket.

Harris — whom the Democratic presidential candidate picked as his running mate Tuesday — famously pounced on him during a 2019 primary-race debate over his opposition to US Department of Education-ordered busing in the 1970s.

The former top California prosecutor-turned-US senator first publicly grilled Biden over why he has boasted about working well with former US Sens. James Eastland and Herman Talmadge, who were known segregationists at the time.

“I do not believe you are racist,” Harris told Biden. “But I also believe, and it is personal — it was hurtful to hear you talk about the reputations of two United States senators who built their reputations and careers on the segregation of race in this country.

“It is not only that, but you also worked with them to oppose busing,” she said — noting that she was part of the second class to integrate her public school growing up in California and was bussed.

Biden angrily fired back that Harris was making a “mischaracterization of my position across the board.

“I did not praise racists,” he insisted. “That is not true. No. 1. No. 2 — if we want to have this campaign litigated on who supports civil rights and whether I did or not, I’m happy to do that.

“I did not oppose busing in America,’’ added Biden — who served as vice president under the country’s first black president, Barack Obama.

“What I opposed is busing ordered by the Department of Education, that’s what I opposed.’’

A few months earlier, Harris — who dropped out of the Democratic presidential race in December — also said she believed the women who have stepped forward to say Biden made them uncomfortable with unwanted touching.

“I believe them, and I respect them being able to tell their story and having the courage to do it,” Harris said.
