Hordes of protesters stormed over the Brooklyn Bridge towards Manhattan in the afternoon, clogging up car traffic in those lanes as they cheered, played music through speakers and held up signage reading, “Black Lives Matter,” and “No justice, no peace.”
Multiple protests also took place at several locations throughout the city including in Harlem, at Brooklyn’s Borough Hall, Cadman Plaza Park and the Barclays Center, as well as near Manhattan’s Foley Square and City Hall.
Protests unfolded nationwide Friday on Juneteenth – the commemoration of the official end of slavery in the United States.
A modern-day civil rights movement sparked across the country following the May 25 police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
Since then, the Big Apple has seen weeks of mass protests in the streets for black rights.
