#Ju-On: Origins is now available to stream on Netflix

Netflix brings a new series based on The Grudge in Ju-On: Origins

You’ve seen The Grudge movies. Now it’s time to check out the series. Ju-On: Origins is officially streaming on Netflix right now.

We’re not talking based on the various American reboot attempts. This is all about taking the story back to the original versions. It’s all about the dark, Japanese horror that brings the Japanese mythology to life. There’s just something about these original movies that still have us watching from behind a cushion.

The new Netflix series promises to do the same. It comes from director Sho Miyake, who is known for Playback, And Your Bird Can Sing, and more. Yoshiyoshi Arakawa, Yuina Kuroshima, and Ririka are among the stars in the series.

Based on a true story

Did you know that the original movies are loosely based on a true story? It’s understandable if you didn’t. I don’t remember the movies making a huge deal about this. Ju-On: Origins makes it clear that this is based on some truth.

It focuses on the true events of a family murdered in a house. This then develops a curse that leads to terror and more death. Anyone who comes into contact with the house ends up killed. Is there any way to escape it?

This is the first-ever horror that comes from Japan in the form of a Netflix Original. That right there is more than enough to give the series a chance. Honestly, all the best horror movies have come out of Japan, and I say that as a big fan of the American classics.

There are six episodes to the series. This isn’t going to take you too long to binge-watch this weekend. And it’s July 4 Weekend; you’ve got time.
