According to ESPN.com, the Miami Dolphins have been fielding trade offers in recent days about Rosen, who is currently listed as the team’s third-string quarterback. It would be the second trade of Rosen’s young NFL career after the Arizona Cardinals drafted him 10th overall in 2018 only to draft another QB the following year — Kyler Murray at No. 1 — and trade him to Miami.
Named as the backup to Ryan Fitzpatrick to start the 2019 season, Rosen then got promoted to starter for Week 3 after the Dolphins started the season 0-2. He lost the starting job after he was benched after three quarters against Washington in Week 6.
Rosen has now found himself at the back of a three-man quarterback race in training camp this year with Tua Tagovailoa, the fifth-overall pick in 2020, fully healthy.
Dolphins head coach Brian Flores said the swirling reports around the Dolphins fielding calls for Rosen was just business as usual around cutdown day.
“It’s a day before cutdown and I think there’s a lot of names that are floating around,” Flores told reporters. “We’re fielding calls left and right … I know (GM Chris Grier) is, about Josh and probably a handful of other players and I think that’s the case across the league. … We’re going to go out and practice today and make the decisions on the roster (Friday).
“We’re fielding calls on a handful of players, and I think every team is doing the same thing. Josh has competed. Josh has made some great throws. I think he’s gotten better over the course of training camp. That’s where we are with him.”
Rosen was the fourth quarterback selected in the 2018 NFL Draft. Afterwards, Rosen made the statement that “nine mistakes” had been made ahead of him in the draft. In his first season with the Dolphins, Rosen was 0-3 as a starter and finished with one touchdown to five interceptions.
As a rookie in 14 games with the Cardinals in 2018, throwing 11 touchdowns compared to 14 interceptions.
