#Joe Biden picks Rochelle Walensky to head the CDC: report

President-elect Joe Biden has reportedly picked Rochelle Walensky — chief of infectious diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital — to run the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Walensky will succeed Robert Redfield, who has been leading the federal agency since March 2018, two sources with knowledge of the move told Politico.

Under Biden, the CDC is expected to assume more responsibility amid the pandemic than under President Trump, the report said.

Biden is expected to publicly announce his nomination of Walensky this week.

In another top health position in Biden’s Cabinet, the president-elect has reportedly tapped California Attorney General Xavier Becerra to be his health secretary.
