Joe Biden said Sunday’s shooting of a black man in Wisconsin pierces “the soul of our nation” and that the cops involved “must be held accountable,” according to a statement issued by his presidential campaign Monday.

“This calls for an immediate, full and transparent investigation and the officers must be held accountable,” the former vice president and Democratic presidential nominee said.

“These shots pierce the soul of our nation,” Biden said. “Jill and I pray for Jacob’s recovery and for his children. Equal justice has not been real for black Americans and so many others. We are at an inflection point. We must dismantle systemic racism. It is the urgent task before us.”

Biden’s statement comes one day after Jacob Blake, a 29-year-old black man, was shot and critically injured by a police officer in Kenosha, Wisconsin, as he tried to enter his car during a domestic dispute call.

Shocking video of the incident, which shows a white police officer tug on Blake’s tank top before shooting him in the back multiple times, went viral on social media.

Relatives said Blake was fighting for his life after undergoing surgery.

The shooting sparked a new round of violent protests in the Wisconsin city, with demonstrators gathering at the scene before marching to police headquarters, where they shouted “F— the police” and hurled bricks and debris at the stationhouse.

President Trump was due to be briefed on the shooting Monday.
