Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train

Japan News Network reported today that the long-awaited North American screenings of Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train will be starting for a limited time on February 26. The screenings will be held for one week in just the city of Miami to help the anime film qualify for this year’s Academy Awards–of which the film is already in the selection, it just needed to be released publicly either online or through traditional means for at least a week.

The report comes from an interview with a spokesperson for the Japanese TV news station Japan News Network. The spokesperson stated that these screenings were just for the Academy Awards and that a full theatrical release is still in the works. Usually, to qualify for the Academy Awards, films must be screened in either New York or Los Angeles for at least a week, but due to the coronavirus, other cities were allowed on the list, including Miami. Streaming the film was also an option.
