#Jets’ rookie receiver Elijah Moore continues to impress

Observations from Jets training camp on Saturday.

Wide Open

Elijah Moore continues to impress. The young receiver caught an 80-yard touchdown pass from Zach Wilson on busted coverage and made two first-down grabs during third-down team drills. The two rookies seem to have strong chemistry already.

Needing backup

It’s a double-edged sword. Jets receivers were open most of the day, which is a positive. It’s also a negative, however, because of what it says about their inexperienced cornerbacks. Coach Robert Saleh believes when the team goes to pads on Monday, it will make it easier on the defensive backs to stay with the wideouts because of their ability to use their hands on pads at the line of scrimmage.

Zach Wilson’s Day

His second practice was much better than his first as his workload increased. Wilson received 30 reps after getting just 14 on Friday, and completed 14 of 20 passes with a touchdown and no interceptions. Wilson received every first-team rep, and got some reps with the second team as well. The highlight was the scoring strike to Moore. Wilson showcases his ability to create plays when his protection breaks down, using his feet to create time and finding receivers on the move. He looked much more confident and sure of himself, and he was mostly accurate.

Caught my eye

The Jets used a broom and a large medicine ball to challenge their punt returners. The broom was utilized to block the returners’ field of vision before catching the ball, while the medicine ball was thrown at the returners in an attempt to knock them off balance after they caught the punts. On one return, it hit Keelan Cole flush in his face mask, but the newcomer didn’t go down.

Injury Report

The Jets didn’t suffer any injuries Saturday.
