#Jessica Krug’s family thinks she skipped her mom’s funeral to avoid getting caught

Jessica Krug skipped her own mother’s 2013 funeral — and now family members are suggesting the college professor was a no-show because she didn’t want to get caught pretending to be a black woman.

“It was a terrible thing to do. She didn’t even offer any sort of excuse,” for skipping the memorial for Sherry Krug, who died at 65 in Albany after a bout with pneumonia, a family friend told DailyMail.com. “And maybe we now know why. I’m not aware of anyone in the family having had any contact with her ever since.”

She didn’t visit her ailing mother in the hospital, either.

Krug, 38, is an African history professor at George Washington University in Washington, DC, but won’t be teaching this semester and is facing calls to resign after she outed herself in a Medium post on Thursday. Critics say she only came clean because she was found out. Fellow faculty said she should resign or be stripped of her tenure.

The family friend said her family remains proud of her academic achievements, but were saddened by her lack of contact. They had no idea she was passing herself off as black until they were contacted this week by reporters, the Daily Mail reported.

“She was blonde the last time I saw her,” the family friend said. “And as for her voice, well that’s interesting. I don’t know if she’s acting, but the voice she has now is not one I’ve heard before.”

He said that people seem to be looking for what led her to behave this way. “But you have to understand we have no clue.” Krug was raised in a white, Jewish family in Kansas City, Missouri.

Family members were now worried what could happen to Krug amid the widespread racial reckoning going on in the US.

“There’s no shortage of stupid and crazy out there and I do worry for her safety,” he added. “If she wanted to reach out to us, to come home, we would never say no.”

Other family members aren’t so forgiving. Her sister-in-law told CNN she’s not met Krug, who’s been estranged from her brother for 20 years, and Krug’s not welcome in their household. “Our last name is tarnished, and all my husband and I want to do is cry our eyes out right now. I can only imagine my father-in-law rolling around in his grave.”

Her parents divorced during her childhood and her father died in Las Vegas in 2017.
