#Jerry Falwell Jr. says pool boy tried to extort him over wife’s affair

The son of late evangelical leader Jerry Falwell says his wife had an affair with a pool boy — who later tried to extort the couple over the illicit relationship.

Embattled Christian-right leader Jerry Falwell Jr. detailed his wife’s “indiscretion,” which he described as brief and starting in 2012, in a stunning lengthy statement to the Washington Examiner on Sunday.

Falwell Jr. called the affair “a fatal attraction-type situation’’ — and said he and his wife, Becki, who are still together, have been paying for it ever since in terms of threats and fear.

“While we tried to distance ourselves from him over time, he, unfortunately, became increasingly angry and aggressive,’’ Falwell wrote of Giancarlo Granda — a then-21-year-old who the couple befriended in 2012 while staying at a hotel he worked at as a pool boy.

“Eventually, he began threatening to publicly reveal this secret relationship with Becki and to deliberately embarrass my wife, family, and Liberty University unless we agreed to pay him substantial monies,’’ said Falwell, who is on leave as president of the Virginia school over icky photos of himself.

Falwell said he and his wife decided to go public with the situation because “it was like living on a roller coaster.

“While completely dedicating ourselves to Liberty, we were also suffering in silence during our personal time together, while simultaneously trying to manage and deal with this increasingly threatening behavior, which only worsened over time,” he said.

Granda fired back to the Examiner, “Any allegation of extortion is falsely, defamatory and belied by clear documentary evidence.

“The Falwell’s attempt to sandbag me, and the Examiner, with a last-minute story without providing the Examiner clear evidence that this was not simply an ‘affair’ with concocted allegations of extortion reeks desperation,” he said.
