Japan has been playing around with the idea of a moving life-sized Gundam for some time, and with pop-culture fans wanting nothing more than to see a full life-sized moving mecha, that wish has been itching to be fulfilled … until it became a reality.
The White Mobile Suit Gundam that is currently under construction on Yamashita Wharf in Yokohama has entered a new testing phase, one that includes movement. While the current Unicorn Gundam at Diver City in Odaiba does 'move', the new Gundam in Yokohama feels like it has jumped straight out of a Gundam anime onto the wharf of the port town.

Twitter users @nansei2 and @yoshi115t were are the test pilot for the movements of the machine and caught some great footage of the Gundam doing some great moves – though in some slower motions than one might expect from a battle mecha.

Sadly, unlike anime Gundam, the one at Gundam Factory Yokohama is tethered to the scaffolding around it, meaning it can walk, but only a few steps. We won't be walking around in giant mechas just yet … though I assume they are working on it! Proof of that concept is this sped-up footage of the Gundam moving:

The Gundam was scheduled to be unveiled in October, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the scheduled opening date for Gundam Factory Yokohama has been pushed back to an undetermined time.
