#Japan Box Office: Demon Slayer Mugen Train Film Surpasses 37 Billion Yen in 17 Weeks

 

 

In its 17th weekend, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train earned 145 million yen (1.38 million USD) on 92,000 admissions, keeping its second place from last week. Although its momentum is slowly waning, it continues to maintain a strong box office following. Its cumulative box office gross in Japan has reached 37.17 billion yen (354 million USD) so far.

 

Gintama THE FINAL dropped to fifth in its fifth weekend, two places down from the previous weekend. The film has finally hit the one million mark in audience attendance, making 1.41 billion yen (13.44 million USD).

 

The live-action film adaptation of Kaiu Shirai (story) and Posuka Demizu (art)'s dark fantasy shonen manga Yakusoku no Neverland / The Promised Neverland has been a persistent box office success. The 118-minute film ranked ninth in its eighth weekend, bringing its total to 1.86 billion yen (17.74 million USD).

 

No new anime films were released this weekend again. Meanwhile, the live-action film adaptation of HREO(story) and Daisuke Hagiwara (art)'s romantic comedy manga Hori-san to Miyamura-kun, Horimiya for short, was released in 11 theaters on February 5 for a limited run of one week and didn't show up in the overall top ranking or in the mini-theater ranking. The film edition consists of the first three episodes of the forthcoming seven-episode TV drama series that will start airing on TBS and MBS in Japan on February 16, 2021.
