#Jack Edwards has brutal take on Andrei Svechnikov’s awful injury

Jack Edwards is back in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons — again.

The Bruins’ play-by-play announcer for NESN offered a controversial take on Twitter regarding Hurricanes star Andrei Svechnikov’s potentially playoff-ending injury in Saturday’s Game 3 of their first-round playoff series.

Svechnikov had been fighting for position in front of the net with Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara when he lost his balance and landed in an awkward position that did not look good for his lower leg.

While there was immediate concern for the 20-year-old winger, Edwards seemed to indicate Svechnikov was partially to blame for the injury.

“What NBC hasn’t shown yet, regarding the unfortunate injury to Svechnikov: the Carolina wing playing hobby-horse, riding Chara on the back apron of the goal,” Edwards tweeted shortly after. “You poke the bear, you take your chances. No one wanted to see Svechnikov hurt, but he bit off more than he could chew.”

But it was not Svechnikov who was tangled behind the net with Chara, but instead Sebastian Aho.

“This one should’ve stayed in the drafts, Jack,” the Hurricanes’ official Twitter account wrote back at Edwards.

Svechnikov was undergoing an MRI on Sunday afternoon, but Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour said he “highly doubts” he will be back for the playoffs, with his team down 2-1 in the series.

Edwards had not addressed the comment as of Sunday afternoon.

It’s not the first time that Edwards has gotten in hot water for his takes that go beyond just being a homer, as many refer to him. The Bruins were playing Dallas in October when Stars defenseman Roman Polak went headfirst into the boards and had to be stretchered off. Edwards called it “bad hockey karma” after Polak, who has since-recovered, had tried to check Bruins forward Chris Wagner, which led to his own injury.

Polak’s agent, Allan Walsh, was among those to call out Edwards at the time.

“I have tremendous respect for the Bruin players that sent best wishes. All class,’’ Walsh tweeted. “As for Jack Edwards, to say Roman’s injury was ‘bad hockey karma’ while he was laying on motionless on the ice, you are truly a piece of s—t and an absolute disgrace.’’
