Without fans there to hear it, Mets outfielder J.D. Davis provided a memorable soundbite on Tuesday.

With Mets DH Yoenis Cespedes up at bat in the seventh inning, Red Sox pitcher Colton Brewer caught Davis leading from first base. Before first baseman Mitch Moreland could make the catch on the bag, Davis practically belly-flopped to the ground reaching his hand to the base — and let out a rather obvious grunt.

“I’m not the fastest base runner, so I don’t know why they’d be picking me off,” Davis responded during a conference with reporters. “I wasn’t going to go anywhere, but I was just diving back. It was a pretty funny moment.”

Fans on social media seemed to agree, as video of the incident quickly went viral.

Davis had already left his mark on the game, bashing a two-run homer into Fenway Parks’ famous Pesky Pole in the fifth inning, putting the Mets in the lead, 5-1, en route to an 8-3 win.
