#It’s ‘hard to believe’ Derek Chauvin meant to kill George Floyd

After urging athletes to stay out of politics, NFL Hall of Famer Brett Favre weighed in on the guilty verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial — saying that he didn’t believe the former Minneapolis cop meant to kill George Floyd.

“I find it hard to believe, and I’m not defending Derek Chauvin in any way, I find it hard to believe, first of all, that he intentionally meant to kill George Floyd,” he said Wednesday on his “Bolling with Favre” podcast.

 “That being said, his actions were uncalled for. I don’t care what color the person is on the street. I don’t know what led to that video that we saw where his knee is on his neck, but the man had thrown in the towel.”

Favre, 51, also responded to the heat he received last week for saying that politics should be kept out of sports, before then calling players kneeling for the national anthem “a shame.”

“I just gave my opinion. I’m certainly not a racist in spite of what some people might think, and you know, I’m for unity and I just feel like there’s a better way to unify our country. That being said, there’s a lot of things that need to stop.” Favre said. 

The former quarterbacks comments on Floyd’s death prompted more backlash online.

“It’s just interesting how the always racist Brett Favre condemned Colin Kaepernick for peacefully taking a knee to bring attention to both racial injustice and police brutality, but is now coming in the defense of killer Derek Chauvin who used HIS KNEE to murder a black man,” one Twitter user wrote.

Another added, “I believe brett Favre is a racist person and should shut his mouth.”

It’s not the first time the former footballer stuck his foot in his mouth.

He came under fire for comments last year when he insisted there was “no right answer” to kneeling during the national anthem, USA Today reported.

“Other than the right answer is that we all get along. It seems like the more people try the more damage is done,” Favre said.
