#Is Anupam Kher leaving New Amsterdam, Dr. Vijay Kapoor role for good?

Is Anupam Kher leaving New Amsterdam, and with that, also his character of Dr. Vijay Kapoor? If you have questions, we understand!

After all, think about this way — on tonight’s episode, it looked midway through as though the character was leaving the hospital. Not only that, but it felt as though we weren’t going to be getting a proper goodbye. As you would imagine, this was beyond frustrating. We wanted something more when it comes to closure for this character, and were hoping that this was just some sort of plot to make everyone unsure as to where the story was going to go.

Entering the episode, we had not heard anything suggesting that Kher was departing the show. He’s been a part of the show from the very beginning and was one of the people Max Goodwin felt strongly would change the hospital for the better. At first this season, he was gone due to illness — the virus, to be specific. Him choosing to resign, however, is a totally different development. Before that, we think a lot of characters had a great deal of hope that he would eventually come back.

As you can imagine, the sudden resignation sent ripples throughout the hospital. There was a real struggle for everyone to deal with it after the fact, and we can’t say that we’re remotely surprised by that. We saw an emotional struggle as some tried to reach out to him, or at least understand where he was and why he made the choices he did.

One reason for the absence…

For those who do not know, Kher has spent a great deal of time as of late in his home country of India, and it’s possible his departure has to do with travel difficulties during the health crisis. We have seen other actors exit their shows for similar reasons over the years.
