#Iran warns Trump against ‘adventurism on his way out’

Iranian foreign minister Javad Zarif on Thursday warned President Trump to avoid “adventurism on his way out” after Trump threatened punishment if Iran kills Americans in Iraq.

The threats are being traded ahead of the Jan. 3 anniversary of the Trump-ordered assassination of Iranian Gen. Qasem Soleimani in Baghdad.

Zarif tweeted, “@realDonaldTrump uses a worthless photo to recklessly accuse Iran.”

“Last time, the US ruined our region over WMD fabrications, wasting $7 TRILLION & causing 58,976 American casualties. FAR WORSE this time. Trump will bear full responsibility for any adventurism on his way out,” Zarif added.

On Wednesday, Trump tweeted a warning to Iran from Air Force One as he traveled to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida for Christmas.

“Our embassy in Baghdad got hit Sunday by several rockets. Three rockets failed to launch. Guess where they were from: IRAN,” Trump wrote, with a photo of the three rockets.

Trump added: “Now we hear chatter of additional attacks against Americans in Iraq. Some friendly health advice to Iran: If one American is killed, I will hold Iran responsible. Think it over.”

During the presidential campaign, Trump routinely boasted of “eliminating” the “terrorist” Soleimani, for supporting attacks on US troops.

Trump withdrew in 2018 from former President Barack Obama’s Iran nuclear deal and reimposed harsh economic sanctions. Some Democrats want President-elect Joe Biden to rejoin the deal.

Trump said the Obama agreement did little to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, and did not block Iran from involvement in several Mideast conflicts.

At points, Trump welcomed Iranian leaders to call him to renegotiate the nuclear deal. He predicted they would make a deal if he won a second term.

Before Trump had Soleimani killed, he called off a retaliatory airstrike in 2019, citing the possible death of 150 Iranians, after Iran shot down a $130 million US drone near its coast.
