The department SUV pulled up to a barricade outside Mott Haven’s 40th Precinct just before midnight on the Fourth of July when a bullet whizzed into its windshield, according to police.
Chilling surveillance video from above shows a puff of debris shoot up from the windshield at the moment the round punched through the windshield.
Pedestrians who passed in front of the vehicle mere seconds before the round impacted didn’t even have time to react before the video cut out.
The slug passed between two cops seated in the front seats, embedding into a divider between the back seats, authorities said.
Shattered glass cut one cop on the face, but the pair escaped serious injury.
It remains unclear whether the vehicle was intentionally targeted or the slug was a stray, but no arrests were immediately announced.
The alarming incident came on a July 4th that saw dozens of people shot across the city, including multiple murders.
It also comes three years after the assassination of Officer Miosotis Familia, who was killed while sitting in an NYPD vehicle amid Independence Day celebrations in the early hours of July 5.
