#’I’ll be back this season’

“‘I’ll be back this season'”

SEATTLE — Matt Carpenter hasn’t given up on coming back this season after suffering a fractured left foot when he fouled a ball off it on Monday against the Mariners.

He got some positive news Wednesday, when he learned he won’t need surgery to repair the fracture, which Carpenter called “a clean break.”

That likely means he’ll need from six to eight weeks to recover, which would put his return near the end of the regular season and before the playoffs.

“I’ll be back this season,’’ Carpenter said Wednesday, after the Yankees lost, 4-3, to the Mariners at T-Mobile Park. “I feel good about it. We’ll see. We’ve checked everything and it’s the best we could hope for, given the situation. I’ve got a broken bone that takes time to heal.”

Carpenter saw a doctor from the NFL’s Seahawks while the Yankees were in Seattle, and has another foot specialist to see in New York while his teammates are in Boston.

“They threw a number out there,’’ Carpenter said, referring to the potential time he will miss. “I’m gonna do whatever I can to speed the process up and see how it goes. I don’t like to put restrictions or a timeline on it. When I feel like I can come back, I’m gonna be ready to go.”

Manager Aaron Boone was pleased with the diagnosis and added Carpenter is scheduled to get another X-ray in three or four weeks to see how the bone is healing after at least two weeks of non-weight-bearing activity.

Boone declined to put a possible date on Carpenter’s return, but if the last two games in Seattle prove anything, the Yankees need his lefty bat in the lineup.

Without him against Luis Castillo, a nasty right-hander, the Yankees were shutout on Tuesday in a game that lasted 13 innings.

And they scored in just one inning of their loss Wednesday.

Miguel Andujar came up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday and has gone 1-for-8 with three strikeouts and a walk.

The Yankees are also without Giancarlo Stanton, who remains sidelined by left Achilles tendinitis. Anthony Rizzo returned Wednesday after missing five games with lower back tightness, but went hitless with a pair of strikeouts.

Carpenter has been perhaps the most consistent and dangerous hitter in the Yankees’ lineup other than Aaron Judge.

He had 15 homers and a 1.138 OPS in 47 games before going down with the injury.

Atlanta second baseman Ozzie Albies broke his foot in the middle of June and hasn’t started a rehab assignment, but outfielder Chris Taylor of the Dodgers is already back following his fracture from a little over a month ago.
