#If any crime deserves the death penalty, this is it

Federal prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in the case of alleged MS-13 gang leader and murderer Alexi Saenz. If these crimes don’t merit the ultimate sanction, nothing does.

Prosecutors say Saenz led the Long Island chapter of MS-13 out of Brentwood — and ordered, among other murders, the 2016 killings of high-school students Nisa Mickens, 15, and Kayla Cuevas, 16, after Cuevas argued with gang members.

The murders were senseless, gruesome and truly evil. Gang members beat the girls with baseball bats then slashed them with machetes — all allegedly with Saenz’s approval.

We’re no fans of the death penalty, but some cases call out for it. Anyone who would order or carry out so brutal a murder has lost the right even to rot away in prison for the rest of his life.

Now, federal, state and county authorities must bolster efforts to eradicate MS-13 completely from Long Island — lest another monster take over and continue the reign of terror.
