#JUJUTSU KAISEN, Demon Slayer Top Japanese Streaming Charts for February 2021

JUJUSTU KAISEN

With streaming becoming more and more mainstream within Japan (and very important for anime), it’s interesting to see what people are viewing during these times. GEM Partners, a Japanese marketing firm that focuses on the entertainment industry, released its top 20 most watch series on Japanese SVOD (flat-fee) streaming service in February, with JUJUSTU KAISEN and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba leading the pack and Attack on Titan not far behind.

GEM gathered the information by surveying around 7,000 Japanese people per week aged between 16 and 69 on what they watched on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, U-NEXT, Hulu Japan, and Disney Plus. The marketing company combined that information into one list to find the most-watched series on streaming.

Here’s is the overall top 10 most viewed shows on Japanese SVOD services in February 2021:

10: The Quintessential Quintuplets

9: HITOSHI MATSUMOTO Presents Documental (variety show)

8: Cells at Work!

7: LAID-BACK CAMP SEASON2

6: Dr. STONE

5: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

4: THE PROMISED NEVERLAND

3: Attack on Titan

2: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba

1: JUJUSTU KAISEN

Attack on Titan Final Season

Topping each service (other than Disney Plus) was JUJUTSU KAISEN, with Demon Slayer appearing in the top four. For Netflix, Attack on Titan came second in February followed by the South Korean drama Crash Landing on You, with Demon Slayer fourth.

On Amazon Prime, THE PROMISED NEVERLAND came second followed by Demon Slayer and Attack on Titan. The Japan-exclusive U-NEXT had Demon Slayer in second place, Attack on Titan third, and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime in fourth place. And finally, Hulu Japan has Case Closed in second place followed by Attack on Titan and variety show Ariyoshi no Kabe.

Wandavision, Frozen 2, The Mandalorian, and Mulan (the ranking don’t specify whether it is the live-action film or animated film), make up the top spots of Disney Plus in Japan.

While this listing shows how popular JUJUTSU KAISEN is in Japan (if the manga sales didn’t make that already plainly obvious), it also shows that despite a wealth of content on all of these platforms, anime still comes up on top!
