Following last year’s return to live crowds, the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is back this week. The department store’s 96th celebration takes place Thursday, Nov. 24, in New York City, where it will retrace its traditional 2.5-mile route through Manhattan, from the Upper West Side to Midtown.

This year, pop culture franchises, brands and corporations will once again get their names in front of live spectators, as the public is being welcomed back to watch the parade’s over-the-top floats, balloons and live performances from the streets. Netflix’s Slumberland, The Macy’s People of the First Light (which will feature elders of the Wampanoag tribes of Mashpee and Cape Code, Massachusetts), Pinkfong Baby Shark, Toys “R” Us and Wonder’s Wondership will join the 2022 parade.

Just like last year, Macy’s will also add a charitable Web3 element to the Thanksgiving parade. A virtual experience in the metaverse will be accessible via the OnCyber platform at Macys.com/NFT, where attendees can explore virtual galleries from five NFT projects and vote for their favorite designs. The winner will be transformed into a real flying float in the 2023 parade, and the virst 100,000 oters will get a free Macy’s digital collectible. Collectors can mint a virtual gallery pass for $50, and all proceeds will benefit Big Broghers Big Sisters of America.

When Is the 2022 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade?

The 96th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade starts at 8:45 a.m. ET on Nov. 24 in New York and ends at noon ET. It will air live on NBC and stream on Peacock from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in all time zones on local TV stations.

Who Is Performing at the 2022 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade?

There will be over 35 live performers at this year’s parade, including the stars of Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin, Betty Who, Big Time Rush, Blanco Brown, Dionne Warwick, Fitz and the Tantrums, Gloria Estefan (along with her daughter, Emily, and grandson, Sasha), Jordin Sparks, Joss Stone, Kirk Franklin, Miss America Emma Broyles, Paula Abdul, Sean Paul, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue and Ziggy Marley.

The Macy’s Great American Marching Band will perform, and others include the NYPD Marching Band, the Queer Big Apple Corps and groups from high schools and universities across the U.S. and Mexico.

Also on the entertainment roster are the Big Apple Circus, Ballet Hispánico, Boss Kids, Fusion Winter Guard, Spirit of America Dance Stars, wandering clowns and more; see the complete lineup here.

How to Watch the 2022 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in Person

The 2022 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade kicks off at 9 a.m. ET in Manhattan at West 77h Street and Central Park West, but only select stops will have public viewing areas. The west side of Central Park West from West 75th to West 61st streets will have a spectator area available starting at 6 a.m. ET, and it’s one of the best places to watch the parade. How to Stream the 2022 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Online

If you don’t have cable, you can stream the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade online on Peacock, which costs $5 per month for the Premium plan or $10 monthly for the Premium Plus package. You can also watch the Thanksgiving event on your smart TV, smartphone, tablet or another device with a subscription to select on-demand video streaming platforms with access to NBC. Those without a smart TV can use a plug-in device (such as the Amazon Fire Stick, Apple TV, Chromecast with Google TV or Roku) that lets you stream live TV and watch on-demand content. Many of the streaming sticks and soundbars are also on sale during Black Friday for up to 40 percent off on Amazon.

For those who haven’t yet subscribed to a streaming platform or are looking to cut the cord (while taking advantage of the best Black Friday streaming deals), below are a few options that let you watch NBC online.

DirecTV Stream

Previously AT&T TV, satellite network DirecTV now offers online TV and on-demand content under its Stream package, which offers over 75 channels on its Entertainment package ($70 monthly) such as ABC, CBS, Comedy Central, CNN, Disney Channel, NBC, ESPN, Fox, FX, National Geographic, TNT and more; other plans offer over 90 to 140 channels, with prices ranging from $90 to $150 per month.

Fubo

Starting at $70 per month, Fubo has a range of plans that offer NBC and a minimum of 138 other channels, including most of the popular news, entertainment, lifestyle and sports networks. A seven-day free trial is included.

Hulu with Live TV

Hulu’s Live TV subscription ($70 per month with ads or $76 monthly without) lets you watch major cable news, entertainment and sports channels and networks, and you can also record content in addition to watching movies and TV shows on demand. The plan includes Disney+ and ESPN+, and you can add on channels such as Cinemax, HBO Max, Showtime, Starz and more for an additional monthly fee. The streamer is not offering free trials at the moment.

Note that starting Dec. 8, Disney+ will add an ad-supported plan that will affect the price of bundles. Packages will be $70 for the ad-supported bundle with Disney+ and Hulu with Live TV, $75 monthly for existing subscribers of the Disney+/Hulu with Live TV/ESPN+ plan and $83 monthly for new subscribers of the ad-free Disney+/Hulu with Live TV and ESPN+.

Peacock

NBCUniversal-owned Peacock’s Premium service normally starts at $5 per month and gives access to NBC, Peacock movies and TV shows and more, but new subscribers can get Peacock Premium for only 99 cents per month for their first 12 months when they sign up by Nov. 28 with code SAVEBIG. Upgrade to the Premium Plus plan ($10 monthly) for an ad-free experience.
