If you aren’t listening to as many audiobooks as you used to, you might be considering ending your Audible membership. You can’t do this using the app, but we’ll show you how to do it quickly on the Audible website.

What to Know Before Cancelling

Before you cancel Audible, be aware that you won’t lose access to the audiobooks that you’ve purchased once you stop subscribing. You’ll still be able to access all of your audiobooks using the Audible website and app. This includes the audiobooks that you’ve paid for and those that you’ve bought using Audible’s monthly membership credits.

If you have any unused credits on Audible, be sure to redeem these before you cancel the subscription. Once you’ve canceled, you’ll permanently lose access to any unused credits. It’s better to redeem these quickly before you bid goodbye to Audible.

This is also the time to return audiobooks, as you might still be able to get a refund with your member privileges.

How to Cancel an Audible Subscription

When you’re ready to cancel, visit the Audible website using any browser and sign in to your account. Note that you can’t cancel the membership using the app or the mobile website, so it’s best to visit the website on a laptop or desktop.

In case you don’t have one, there’s a workaround to cancel Audible on a mobile device. Once you’ve signed in to Audible on a mobile browser, scroll to the bottom and select “Full Site.” This will open the desktop version of Audible’s website. It will be difficult to navigate on a small screen, but it’s possible.

At this point, it’s abundantly clear that Audible really doesn’t want to let you cancel the subscription easily. You’ll see some kind of offer to prevent you from canceling on this page. In our case, it was an offer to contact customer care with any issues, but your mileage can vary. Since we’re fully committed to canceling Audible, let’s click “Cancel Anyway.”

You’ll be asked to sign in again, and once you’ve done that, Audible will show you a prominent message that reads: “Your Membership Has Been Cancelled.”

As we said before, you can listen to all audiobooks in your library even after canceling. And if you change your mind, you can always sign up for an Audible membership later.
