“Sonny Boy Wins Animation Excellence Award at 25th Japan Media Arts Festival”
The Summer 2021 original anime series Sonny Boy has been announced as one of the winners of the Excellence Award at the 25th Japan Media Arts Festival’s Animation Division.
The Shingo Natsume-helmed anime is one of four titles recognized with the award, with the others including the short animation Letter to A Pig and the Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko and Dozens of Norths movies.
The Animation Division Grand Prize went to the short animation The Fourth Wall from Iranian director Mahboobeh Kalaee, while the stop-motion Pui Pui Molcar anime received the Social Impact Award.
Meanwhile, the New Face Award was awarded to the Odd Taxi anime series and animation shorts A Bite of Bone and Yallah!.
A list of recommended titles by the judging panel was also released, with the list including anime titles like Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway; Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie – Mugen Train; Gekijouban Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight; Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop; Josee, the Tiger and the Fish; and Looking for Magical DoReMi.
