Ab-Soul has revealed BIA was one of the features he wanted on his latest album Herbert but that it didn’t work out because of poor timing.

On Tuesday (January 3), Soulo held a Q/A with fans on Twitter and answered some burning inquiries about the new project such as the process behind it, taking it on tour, dropping a deluxe edition and more. One person asked the Carson, California native if there was a feature that he wanted to get done but missed out on.

Herbert features Joey Bada$$, Jhené Aiko, Big Sean, Russ and more but according to Ab-Soul, BIA was supposed to have a feature on the album.

“Any artists you wanted on the album that didn’t quite work out,” the fan asked.

The Black Lipped Bastard replied: “BIA. Timing was off tho.”

Herbert was released on December 16, serving as his fifth studio album and his first full-length release since 2016’s Do What Thou Wilt.

Missing out on the BIA feature didn’t do too much damage as the Top Dawg Entertainment rapper believes his album was one of the best LPs of the year.

Ab-Soul jumped on Twitter last week to express his thoughts about his latest album while also correcting people on the spelling of his stage name. “For the last time…. My name is Ab-Soul. Not Ab Soul/AbSoul/Absol/etc. Thanks,” he wrote in his first tweet.

“ALSO. My album IS top 5 of da year. Fucc all dat humble sh*t. Dead homies,” he added in a follow-up message.

The album saw Ab-Soul fulfil a dream by collaborating with DJ Premier, a moment that was a long time in the making and produced a memorable session in the studio.

In an interview with Vulture, Soul shared that he re-recorded his verses on “Gotta Rap” a few times to create a track that was worthy of the legendary producer’s approval. “I knew I needed him this time around,” Ab-Soul recalled. “He definitely put me to work. I had to do it about five or six times until he found the right frequency.”

He added: “He liked the verse, but I had to match the frequency of the record because I guess that was one of his favorite beats. So he wanted to make sure I came correct. That was the first time anybody ever made me re-record. So that was humbling. But it’s Preemo.”
