#Honestly The Best & Challenging Side-Scroller I’ve Played Thus Far On The Switch! » OmniGeekEmpire

After hearing so many good things about Metroid Dread, I caved and picked up the game. 4 hours later, I am immensely impressed with what I played!

Metroid Dread is an action-adventure game developed by MercurySteam and Nintendo EPD, released on October 8, 2021, for the Nintendo Switch. This is a game 19 years in the making, and it delivered on the wait. You play as Samus to investigate a mysterious transmission on Planet ZDR. The remote planet has been overrun by vicious alien lifeforms and murderous robots called E.M.M.I. The game has a counter system for them but the odds of you getting it seems next to impossible at first. Only true trials and error do you begin to get the timing right. And let me tell you, these fuckers are no joke. Each encounter is just as thrilling as the last one, forcing you to stay on your toes as to navigate and platform your way to safety.

It’s the most intense side-scrolling adventure I’ve played in a while, and challenging too. Aside from that, exploration in this game is amazing. It really rewards you well when paying attention to key details that lead to secret passages for upgrades and items! Planet ZDR map design may seem daunting at first but you’ll naturally be able to map out your next destination with ease. Visually Metroid Dread also looks amazing and is quite easily one of the best-looking Metroid games ever made. From the environments feeling lived in and alive to all the amazing effects for weapons fire as well as everything else. Everything is well detailed and really shows in every aspect. The performance on the Switch is solid overall. During gameplay, Metroid Dread aims to deliver a smooth 60 frames per second experience, something you’ll definitely appreciate when you have been chased by those E.M.M.I. and bosses!

Honestly, it’s nice to have a game that is challenging and rewards me for being good. Every time I died, I knew it was my fault for making that wrong turn or trying to be daring. The story is interesting, I feel like all you gotta do is watch some youtube videos on the mainline titles and you be able to still appreciate the continuation on SAMUS’s STORY.

Also, I gotta give a shoutout to the sound and audio in this game. Almost every individual aspect and object in the game, from the bio-creatures to the mechanical robots have a fine-tuned sound design to it, and there is a certain sense of constant unease to how sound is used in the game. Overall, this is a must-have on your Switch. Highly recommended!
