#Machine Gun Kelly film drops title after Mac Miller’s brother lashes out

Machine Gun Kelly’s latest film project just got shot down.

The “Bloody Valentine” singer, 31, was set to play a troubled musician in “Good News,” an upcoming drama inspired by late rappers Mac Miller, Pop Smoke, Lil Peep and Juice WRLD.

“Good News” is also the title of Mac Miller’s first posthumous single off his January 2020 album “Circles.” Using it for a movie apparently didn’t sit well with Mac’s brother, Miller McCormick.

“F–k you. F–k your movie, at least change the title,” McCormick posted on his Instagram Story on Thursday. In spite of McCormick’s vague post and no blatant callout, he still managed to catch the attention of the production.

Rivulet Media, the film’s production company, released a statement to E! News informing fans the title “Good News” was created with no malicious intent, rather in an effort to pay homage to the late rapper, who died of an accidental overdose in 2018 at the age of 26.

“Our film is about a fictional musician on the rise with a troubled life. It’s not in any way a biopic or based on any artist’s true life,” the statement read. “We realize the title, which was intended as an homage to Mac Miller, and other artists gone too soon, feels disrespectful. We’ve heard from many people on social media who have found offense with the title so, without hesitation, we will change it.”

Machine Gun Kelly, whose real name is Colson Baker, has yet to release his own statement regarding the project, which is set to start production in Los Angeles on July 8. According to Deadline, Rivulet Media’s Rob Paris said of MGK: “Colson Baker is that rare talent who is ascending at an incredible pace both in film and music. He is exactly the kind of artist that Rivulet Media is looking to partner with and we couldn’t be more excited to support him on both fronts, especially with Tim Sutton’s powerful screenplay and vision, which are custom-tailored to Colson’s formidable skills.”

In addition to the now untitled project, MGK is also set to star in three additional new projects: “The Last Son Of Isaac LeMay,” “One Way” and “Midnight in the Switchgrass,” which co-stars his girlfriend, Megan Fox.
