Funimation and the official website for the anime finally revealed overnight that the new Higurashi TV anime series isn't what it seems to be, announcing a different title for the series and releasing a brand new visual and trailer for the newly titled Higurashi: When They Cry – GOU. Fans of the franchise were excited by the news, causing Higurashi to trend on Twitter in Japan for over 12 hours.
Funimation describes the GOU in the new title as "a Japanese kanji that has multiple meanings and usages but can be used to mean karma, or the fate resulting from one’s actions in past lives, based on Buddhist concepts." The new visual reflects this by having multiple Rika's on it.
The trailer features the newly revealed opening theme "I believe what you said" by Asaka, and that the ending theme will be from Ayane titled "Kamisama no Syndrome (God's Syndrome)." Keen fans of the When They Cry series noticed in the new opening that some other characters from the franchise might turn up in Gou.
Capping off the slew of Higurashi news, the official website for the anime series announced that Yui Horie will continue to voice Hanyu in the series. Higurashi: When They Cry – GOU is streaming on Funimation.
