#Help Yuwaku Onsen Recover From Lack of Tourists With Hanasaku Iroha Campaign

Yuwaku Onsen Recovery Campaign

Only an hour away from Kanazawa Station is the small Japanese town of Yuwaku Onsen, which gets its namesake from the nine onsen (hot-spring) inns in the area, was the inspiration behind Yunosagi Onsen, the town featured in the 2011 TV anime Hanasaku Iroha. While the area is usually filled with tourists and anime fans making the pilgrimage, because of current circumstances, and the canceling of the annual Bonbori Festival – which recreates the events seen in Hanasaku Iroha – the small resort town has been empty and the businesses who rely on the income of tourists are under threat of going out of business.

To help out the local area, the Yuwaku Onsen Tourism Association has teamed up with Hanasaku Iroha to start the “Yuwaku Onsen Recovery Campaign” with some special ways to donate to the town, and if you’re able to visit, a campaign which will net visitors special Hanasaku Iroha goods.

Even though the Bonbori Festival is not running this year, in place of the festival, anyone around the world is able to purchase their own bonbori for 6,000 yen (US$56) that will be placed, with your image inside of it, in on the stairs leading up the plaza in Yuwaku Osen. After the bonbori is put up, buyers will be sent an image of their bonbori among all of them. They’ll be lit up every night from August 1 to November 30 at 7 PM.

For people that are able to travel to Yuwaku Onsen, staying in an inn will net people a special clear file with a visual of Hanasaku Iroha, and spending over 1,000 yen (US$9.30) any of the participating stores in town will give buyers a Hanasaku Iroha postcard.

While international tourism is out of the question for a little while longer, domestic tourists can still travel in the country, though it isn’t recommended at the moment for those who live in the Tokyo area, it’s still nice that we can support local businesses in Japan – especially those closely connected to anime – from anywhere in the world.
