A UK mom was not loving it after her 6-year-old daughter choked on a piece of face mask that she claims was baked into her McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets.
“I thought, ‘What on earth is this?’ ” wrote Aldershot’s Laura Arber in a now-deleted Facebook post detailing the horrific incident. “We have just come out of a pandemic and there is a face mask in my child’s chicken nugget!”
According to Hampshire Live, Arber, 32, took three of her children to their local Mickey D’s for some golden arches takeout at 6 p.m. Aug. 4. However, her Happy Meal turned out to be anything but when they returned home five minutes away to enjoy their meal — and daughter Maddie began choking on the couch.
“I put my fingers down her throat to loop it out of there — and she was just blue with the sick,” recalled the distraught mom, claiming she found fragments of the disposable face mask in two of their 20 fried chicken pieces. The personal protective equipment (PPE) was “cooked into it, like a part of the mixture,” the BBC reported.
Arber said her fears were exacerbated when she went to the managers to complain about the tainted treats, claiming they refused to apologize and kept serving them.
“I just couldn’t believe the way the management were handling it,” said Arber, adding that she previously held the company in high esteem since she once stayed at a Ronald McDonald House while her son was in intensive care.
However, the fast food giant has since released a statement in which they claim staffers “apologized, offered a full refund and asked the customer to return the item” so they could further investigate the matter, the Daily Mail reported.
The McDonald’s spokesperson added, “We are very sorry to hear about this customer’s experience. Food safety is of the utmost importance to us and we place great emphasis on quality control, following rigorous standards to avoid any imperfections.”
Unfortunately, PPE trash is ending up in some unlikely places as masks to combat the spread of the coronavirus become increasingly mandatory across the globe. In July, a seagull was rescued after spending a week with its legs entangled in a littered anti-COVID cover.
