#Helado Negro Covers David Bowie’s “Sound and Vision”: Listen

Last month, British record label BBE Music  announced their David Bowie tribute album Modern Love. Now, Helado Negro has shared his offering from the compilation: a cover of Bowie’s 1977 Low song “Sound and Vision.” Check it out below.

Modern Love arrives May 28 and features covers from across Bowie’s catalog by Khruangbin, Jeff Parker, Meshell Ndegeocello, and more. “The cover I imagined was something living in between sleep and awake where sound and vision dominate,” Helado Negro said of his recording in a press release. “Residue from your dream state mixed in with waking up and stirring into what the day will be.”

Upon announcing Modern Love, BBE shared its first single: We Are KING’s cover of “Space Oddity.” The tribute project aims to highlight Bowie’s connection with the soul, R&B, jazz, funk, and gospel sounds that influenced his own work.

Helado Negro released his most recent LP This Is How You Smile in 2019. Read Pitchfork’s Song By Song interview “Helado Negro Breaks Down Every Song on His New Album, This Is How You Smile.”
