The fourth collected volume of Kaiju No. 8, a science fiction action manga by Naoya Matsumoto about a thirty-something year old man who works on clean-up detail disposing of the remains of slain giant monsters, has been published in Japan, and to celebrate the official Jump Comics Youtube channel has published a “motion comic” style preview video promoting the series.

In terms of recent milestones, Kaiju No. 8 recently surpassed 4 million copies in print circulation and digital sales. The series also won first prize in the web manga track in the “Tsugu ni Kuru Manga Taijyou 2021 / Next Manga Awards 2021” contest sponsored by DAVINCI and niconico in August of 2021.

Kaiju No. 8 is serialized in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ digital manga magazine, and an English language version of the series is also available from Viz Manga, who describe the story of the series as follows:

Kafka hopes to one day keep his pact with his childhood friend Mina to join the Japan Defense Force and fight by her side. But while she’s out neutralizing kaiju as Third Division captain, Kafka is stuck cleaning up the aftermath of her battles. When a sudden rule change makes Kafka eligible for the Defense Force, he decides to try out for the squad once more. There’s just one problem—he’s made the Defense Force’s neutralization list under the code name Kaiju No. 8.
