“Harry Styles Admits He Has ‘No Idea What I’m Doing’ When It Comes to Acting”
“Making music is a really personal thing. There are aspects of acting where you’re drawing from experience a bit, but for the most part you’re pretending to play someone else. That’s what I find the most interesting about it. They can aid each other in a way. Anytime you get to view the world through a different lens, it can help create whichever way it goes. I find it really different. I think the fun part if that you never know what you’re doing in either of them. Music I’ve done for longer, but what I like about acting is I feel like I have no idea what I’m doing.”
Don’t Worry Darling stars Styles alongside Florence Pugh, Olivia Wilde, Chris Pine, Gemma Chan, Kate Berlant, and Nick Kroll. The film follows a 1950s housewife (Pugh) living with her husband (Styles) in a utopian experimental community when she begins worrying that his glamorous company may hide disturbing secrets. Speaking on the movie, Styles said it was great to have a world built around them while acting on Don’t Worry Darling.
“It’s fun to play in worlds that aren’t necessarily your own. This [Don’t Worry Darling] world is supposedly so perfect. It was fun to play pretend in it. It’s like driving fun cars. We were lucky to have that world built so well around us, so we could play in reality instead of pretending everything was nice.”
Styles has stayed relatively quiet despite the controversy surrounding Pugh, Wilde, and Shia LaBeouf, which has dominated the news cycle before the premiere of their film. Don’t Worry Darling is set to arrive in theaters later this month, on Sept. 23.
