At Netflix’s Tudum Japan live stream event, the streaming platform revealed a new teaser key visual and 53-second trailer for the upcoming anime film, The Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh Part 1. The 3DCG follow-up film to The Seven Deadly Sins will premiere in December 2022. 

The Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh will be released as two animated films, focused on Tristan, the son of the protagonist Meliodas and a supporting character The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights Of The Apocalypse. It is the third and latest film in the franchise, following The Seven Deadly Sins the Movie: Prisoners of the Sky in 2018 and The Seven Deadly Sins: Cursed By Light in 2021. Alfred Imageworks and Marvy Jack are producing the 3D anime film. 

Ayumu Murase will voice Tristan, while Mikako Komatsu will voice the younger version of the character. Meanwhile, Yuuki Kaji will reprise his role from the main series as Meliodas. Other returning voice cast members include Sora Amamiya as Elizabeth, Jun Fukuyama as King, Aoi Yuuki as Diane, Tatsuhisa Suzuki as Ban, and Yuuhei Takagi as Gowther.

Original series creator Nakaba Suzuki also shared a new illustration featuring a sketch of Tristan, along with comments about The Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh Part 1.

The first season of The Seven Deadly Sins aired in 2014 while the latest fifth season aired in 2021. A-1 Pictures produced the first two seasons, as well as the four-episode Signs of Holy War series and Prisoners of the Sky. Seasons four and five, as well as the film Cursed By Light, were subsequently produced by Studio Deen. 

Suzuki’s original manga series was serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shounen Magazine from October 10, 2012 to March 25, 2020. It has inspired several manga spin-offs, light novels, video games, artbooks, and a stage play adaptation. 

Netflix describes the synopsis of the film as: 

Split into two parts, the story will follow Tristan, the son of The Seven Deadly Sins protagonists Meliodas and Elizabeth. Tristan inherits the power of the Goddess Clan and can heal people’s wounds and injuries, but he often ends up hurting others due to his inability to control his Demon Clan power. To protect his family, Tristan heads to Edinburgh Castle and meets a host of new friends along the way.
